Hydraulic Stack Paper Cutters – Duplo 490, 490P & 660P Now Online

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

We have just added three new hydraulic stack cutters to our site. These are the Duplo 490, Duplo 490P and the Duplo 660P. These aren’t your typical scrapbooking paper cutters. These are the types of cutters that printers will use to cut down large printing jobs. The 660P, which is the biggest of the three, can cut up to almost four-inches of paper at a time.

Hydraulic paper cutters are considered to be the workhorses of the commercial cutting world. They are designed to be used continuously throughout the day. These cutters pack quite a punch. They can be a little intimidating to use at first, but the controller interface is easy to use and there are many built-in safety features to prevent injury.

Duplo is considered to be one of the most reputable office equipment manufacturers in existence today. Duplo has been manufacturing paper-handling machines since 1951.

Rotatrim Professional Series – Best Rotary Cutter Ever?

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Rotatrim has made a significant name for themselves over the years with their line of rotary paper cutters. Photographers, copy shops, scrap bookers and more consider Rotatrim cutters the Holy Grail of rotary paper cutters. Why is it that these British-Made cutters are so popular? Are they really as good as everyone says they are?

There are a couple of reasons the Rotatrim line is popular. Most of this boils down to quality and build. Rotatrim cutters are heavy and made from solid components. If you ever have the chance to handle a Rotatrim next to another cutter, you will be amazed at the difference in quality. In many instances, the difference is as stark as comparing a bicycle to a Porsche.

The Rotatrim Professional Series of cutters are considered to be some of the best cutters made by Rotatrim. The cutting wheel is large, making cutting effortless, and the cutting head itself rests on two support bars. These two bars keep the cutting head solidly in place, preventing movement. This means cuts are very accurate and very straight every time.

While Rotatrim rotary cutters cost more up front, chances are pretty good that they will last for years. Many have reported their Rotatrim cutters lasting up to 10+ years. Now compare that to a Fiskars cutter, which you may be replacing every few months. The costs makes itself up quickly.

You can find our line of Rotatrim Professional Cutters here. If you need a rotary cutter, but the Rotatrim is a little much for you, here are five great high-quality alternatives.

Great Rotatrim Alternatives:

Best Types Of Corner Rounders

Friday, December 11th, 2009

You would be amazed just how much round corners can affect the look of a document. Why is this? In part, it is because square corners are so common. Almost any sheet of paper, including magazine and newspapers, has square corners.

A round corner adds just enough of an aesthetic change to improve the appearance of a document. Sometimes it is so subtle that people feel the document they are handling is of higher quality, but the don’t know why.

What are some common documents to have their corners rounded? What I have seen, from our customers, is that many people like to round the corners of their business cards. A 1/8-inch corner is the most popular corner diameter. Photographs are also popular for corner rounding. So what should you look for in a corner rounder?

Be sure your corner rounder has interchangeable blades. For one, this allows you to swap out different diameter cuts. With this ability, you can use a 1/8-inch diameter on a business card and a ¼-inch diameter on a photograph. Most importantly, this allows you to replace a dull blade.

The handle length will determine how easy it is to cut through paper and material. The longer the handle, the more leverage you have and the easier it will be to cut through paper. Most of the corner rounders we sell at ABC Office can cut through at least a half-inch of paper.

Most corner rounders can cut through laminated material as well, however, laminated paper will dull the blade more quickly. Some of our higher end corner rounders can even cut up to .080 aluminum.

You will find our entire selection of corner rounders here.

New Fletcher Terry Substrate Cutters / FSC / Titan / Gemini Pro – Now Available!

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

We have just added a new line of substrate cutters to our site from Fletcher Terry. These aren’t your standard run-of-the-mill paper cutters. These new cutters are known as substrate cutters. Many can cut a wide range of items such as corrugated plastic, foamboard, PVC, banners, vinyl, fabric and paper. Some models can even cut aluminum, acrylic, glass and more!

We have added in all a total of three new cutters from Fletcher Terry. These are the FSC Substrate Cutter, the Titan and the Gemini Pro. Each of these cutters are designed and optimized for specific tasks.

Learn more about each of these cutters below:

FSC Substrate Cutter – The FSC Substrate Cutter is a beast. It is extremely accurate and capable of cutting a wide range of materials. This includes corrugated plastic, aluminum, PVC, econolite, acrylic, foamboard, glass and more. It includes a laser sight line cutting guide for knife or wheel cutting operations, which projects a cut line on the substrate, eliminating guess work and costly errors in a post printing process. Check it out!

Titan - The Titan is designed to cut rigid materials such as corrugated plastic, foamboard and gatorboard, but can also cut flexible materials such as fabric, vinyl, banners and paper. It can cut rigid materials up to ½-inch thick. This is all thanks to a cutting head that switches from cutter to trimmer. Check it out!

Gemini Pro - The Gemini pro is a compact substrate cutter that can switch from cutter (with a blade) to trimmer (rotary blade). It can cut rigid materials up to ½-inch thick. Much like the Titan, the Gemini Pro can cut corrugated plastic, gatorboard, foamboad and flexible materials like paper, vinyl, fabric and more. The Gemini Pro can be used in conjunction with the Fletcher Terry Atlas Worktable for added stability. Check it out!

We are very excited about this new addition to our site and our new relationship with Fletcher Terry.

We have been busy lately adding several new products to our site. Just this week we added over 10 new products from Tamerica to our site. As part of the new Tamerica addition, we have added the GuilloMax and GuilloMax Plus paper cutters to our sites. These are both guillotine-style stack paper cutters designed to cut hundreds of sheets of paper at once.

Popular Cutting Blades & Digital Scrapbooking

Monday, July 13th, 2009

I have written several articles in the past about the best types of scrapbook paper cutters and would now like to cover some of the most popular types of blades. To start with, digital scrapbooking has significantly increased over the past five years, due in part to some great software and print-quality inkjet printers. Something digital scrapbooking is lacking is texture. Once the page is printed, albeit good looking, it lacks a certain dimension. How does this lead to paper cutting blades? Read on.

Just because digital scrapbooking looks flat doesn’t mean it’s all bad. This type of software can be used to print out some amazing patterns and pages after which photographs can be added. Adding photographs brings a layer of depth to the scrapbook page. Paper cutters can be used to cut borders around those photographs for a unique finished look.

Here at ABC Office the Carl RT-200 has been a favorite among our customers. This is because it has over 11 different blades that can be used. The blades can literally be snapped in and out for a different look. With 11 different blades to choose from, you’ll never get bored. Here are just a few examples of the unique blades we offer.

Best Scrapbooking Paper Cutter

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Scrapbooking is certainly nothing new, but it continues to grow in popularity. We often get questions from customers asking which of our paper cutters are best for scrapbooking. I can understand why this may be difficult, especially since we literally have hundreds of models available.

To help narrow your search, the two most popular scrapbook paper cutter categories are rotary paper cutters and arm paper trimmers. Both types of cutters are compact, portable and easy to use.

Rotary paper trimmers use a round blade to cut through paper and are very precise. Arm paper trimmers use a single blade that is pulled down with a hand. The cutting action is similar to that of scissors. Arm cutters are also accurate. Between the two types, rotary paper cutters are more popular.

Rotary paper cutters are the most popular types of paper cutters because they are so versatile. They can be used to cut decorative paper, photographs, borders and more. Some models of rotary cutters, such as the Carl RT-200, have interchangeable cutting blades with different patters. Patterns include a wavy cut, a zig-zag cut and much more.

Here is a list of some popular rotary paper cutters used by scrapbookers:

Scrapbookers & scrappers of the world unite and take over – Carl RT200

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

In case you haven’t been around the past decade, scrapbooking is huge. It is a multi-million dollar business and is popular in both hard and computer formats. Although scrapbooking by means of a computer has its benefits, most of the people I know use traditional stamps, custom-printed cardstock, scissors, glue and printed photographs.Carl RT-200

Carl RT-200I have been asked on several occasions, by customers, family and friends, which paper cutter is the best for scrapbooking. A lot of it depends on what you plan on doing, but I have personally purchased the Carl RT-200 paper cutter for my wife and she loves it. I’ll explain.

The RT-200, although a low-volume cutter, is inexpensive and is packed with features. It uses a rotary blade, which ensures a straight cut every time. Not only that, but about 11 different blades are available depending on the cut you desire. This varies from a perforating blade and a deckle blade to scallop or Victorian blade. It cuts through cardstock and photographs without a problem.

You can find the Carl RT-200 cutter here. For the price you really can’t go wrong, especially considering the cost of ink stamps, thermography powder and other scrapbooking equipment. Good luck with your scrapbooking!
